Yay! It's a Dragon bust that I did for my final project in ceramics class. Made out of 100% clay with my own two hands and some carefully chosen ceramics tools (AKA a toothpick and a rolling pin ;)) He's ferociously adorable :D

How much are kiln's going for these days?

That takes me back to when I was a kid......My mom used to mold and paint ceramics. I think we had over 600 molds.

I also remember having clay all over our basement. :)

Yeah, I wish so much that I still had a kiln to work with. It was at my school so I could use it for free! But gosh, kilns are going for a few hundred dollars I think. I remember looking into it and you have to have a special permit to get extra electricity to run it, plus a good ventilation system... Anyways, it ended up being waaay too expensive for me >_<

Did you end up glazing it or did you just leave it after its first fire?

I glazed it, but the glaze kinda looked like crap, so I just never posted the finished one lol

Beautiful piece. I bet your ceramics teacher loved it. Dragons are beautiful things and you managed to make it more beautiful by using your hands in ceraics. Amazing job. I may show this to my ceramics teacher.

Your welcome. I believe that everyone deserves to have their work praised if it is deserving. Being a Visual Arts student I know how much work goes into art. Not everyone appreciates the beauty of art, not everyone takes it serious. I am doing ceramics in my second year and I know that the process in getting a successful piece is sometimes a pain. Keep up the amazing work.

Im in ceramics my self and am currently looking into making a dragon of my own. How exactly did you get the nose and moth to stick out so far without it falling off?? Any answers would be so helpful

You build the jaws seperate from the rest of head. then when you are attaching them, make a good bit of extra clay to support them from sagging. You can take off the support when your dragon is leather-hard. Hope that helps ^^
